It is the policy of Youthreach to send trainees out on work experience from time to time. Generally this would take place in the summer holidays for junior certificate and fetac student and a two week spell for each of the four terms of the leaving certificate applied (LCA) for leaving cert applied students. Work experience is mandatory for LCA students.
We will assist you in every way possible in finding work experience that will suit you. The VEC will provide insurance cover for all trainees going out on work experience. For those intending to work in construction, it is vital that you have a current ’Safepass’ card. If you do not have one you will not be employed on any construction site.
In the past we have run a day course to help trainees get their Safepass card. This course was offered at a much subsidised rate. We would be delighted to do this again if there are sufficient numbers of people interested and the VEC being in agreement with providing the funding.
While on work experience you will be visited by a member of staff from the centre and also you are obliged to ask your employer to fill out a form on your progress. You will be paid your usual allowance while on work experience.
